Free models, actually tested.
A hosted-model list where "free" means somebody called it and it answered. Zero token paywalls, no "premium" tier hidden in the small print. Every model is a real one we tested at least once. Updated when something genuinely changes, not when somebody tweeted.ricing is not the same as free — models billed per second or per clip report a price of zero and still charge you. Every row below was verified by making a real request.
| Model | Provider | Context | Routes | Status |

Snapshot taken 2026-08-23. 105 free models tracked, 72 answering
at the time of the test. This is a dated list, not a live status board: a page on the
public web cannot reach the machine that runs the tests, and we would rather stamp the date
than pretend otherwise.
Statuses drift, in both directions. Upstream keys recover as often as they die, so an
“upstream 401” here is worth retrying rather than treating as dead. A rate-limit
result means the free quota was spent when we called, not that the model is gone.
“Not chat” covers embedding, rerank and speech models. They are free and
real, they just do not answer a chat-completions request.
Context is the provider's advertised window, shown in tokens. Routes is how many
independent ways we reached the same model. More routes means one provider outage does
not take it away from you.
